Doug King is known as both a skilled player and a great coach.
As a young man, Doug King used his pitching skills to help his team earn Simcoe’s first provincial baseball championship. He was a member of the 1946 Reformer Cubs junior team and blazed a winning trail with his overpowering fast ball and arsenal of baseball talent.
King’s talent caught the eye of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They farmed him out to a Class C team and by the end of his professional career, Doug had climbed the ladder and was hurling for the Pirates system at the AA level.
After stepping off the field, Doug devoted his time and efforts to coaching baseball locally for many years at all levels of the game. He coached the Simcoe Giants to three Ontario championships in both Intermediate and Senior baseball. He also took great pride in passing on his knowledge to youngsters. Through his involvement in minor baseball in Port Dover, Doug used his talent to help young people develop their baseball skills.
