Ladies’ softball pioneer Myrle Hoover Raymer coached ladies’ fastball teams from 1927 to 1971—notably the Simcoe Stars for ten years from 1960 to 1971, and before them, the Sarnia Belles—to a total of eight PWSU and OASA provincial championships.
Recalling his days with the Stars at his Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition induction in 1998, Myrle said, “We won [the championship] so often, they told us to keep the trophy.”
Myrle also served on the executive of the now-defunct Intermediate Simcoe Chiefs hockey club.
Myrle was similarly honored by his home town when he was inducted into the Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Recognition in 1989.
